Cats For Adoption

Cats & Kittens at Pets West

Pets West works with a number of local cat rescues, including Victoria Humane Society and Dee’s Orphan Fund.
Adoptions are done as a volunteer service with no fee charged by Pets West (all adoption fees go directly to the rescue) and with limited resources.  Our goal is to ensure that all cats get a good home, and hopefully in the long term that all good homes get a cat.

Pets West frequently has cats and kittens available for adoption through local rescue organizations. Please stop by the store, or call for availability. If you would like to be added to our kitten waiting list, please e-mail pets@petswest.ca

All of the cats listed on this page are courtesy posts for our local rescue organizations, private homes, or local breeders!

Smokey <3

Smokey is a sweet kitty who is looking for a home where he can be himself and flourish in his own time. He came from a hoarding situation and has been quite clearly traumatized. We don’t know much about Smokey’s past but he is nervous about being touched so does no enjoy petting or affection. If Smokey is in his hidey-place you can pet him and he does not show any aggression, but at this point he does not enjoy the contact. Although Smokey is uncomfortable around people, he enjoys spending time with other cats. His ideal home will be where he gets to be friends with other cats but where he’s not expected to be snuggly or affectionate with people. Since he gets along easily with other cats, Smokey would do best in a home where there are already other confident cats that can help him learn how to trust.

When Smokey first arrived in our care he was very scared, closed off, and shut down. He wouldn’t eat in front of us, wouldn’t make eye contact, and wouldn’t move out of his hiding spot when people where in the same room as him. After a few months of socialization with his foster family, Smokey is now brave, curious, and playful (although he’d still prefer not to be touched.) He has decided that his foster mom is not all bad, especially if there is food involved. Every morning and evening when it’s time for dinner, his foster mom offers him her hand to sniff before she feeds him and he will take a few steps forward to give her a good sniff before he eats his dinner.

Just recently, Smokey has started moving around more during the day when his foster mom is home. He likes to play at night with the other cats and with his toys. Smokey is quite vocal with the other cats and cat be chatty at night. He doesn’t mind the cat-savvy dog that’s in his foster home and they even touch noses on occasion. He doesn’t like conflict and when the female cat in his foster home is on a rampage he quietly moves aside (she like to make sure everyone.. even the dog.. know she’s boss). He’s such a sweet boy and we hope that he can find a home where someone can give him the time he needs to show his true personality.

Please note that due to increasing numbers of COVID-19 in our province, in an effort to minimize risk to our foster homes and discourage non-essential travel, we will only be considering adoptions on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands at this time.

Athens & Missy <3

Athens & Missy are special kitties who are looking for a home together where they can be themselves and flourish on their own time. Both kitties came from a hoarding situation and they were clearly fairly traumatized. We don’t know much about their past but they are nervous about being touched so do not enjoy petting or affection. Their favourite place to hang out is on top of the armoire where they can watch what’s going on without being in the thick of things.

Although these girls are uncomfortable around people, they really like other cats. Their ideal home will be where their ‘job/purpose’ is to be friends with other cats and not to be snuggly or affectionate with people. Both of these girls get along easily with other cats and would do best in a home where there are already other confident cats that are comfortable and can show them the ropes. Neither of the cats are overly playful and would do well in a home with other adult or senior cats, not playful kittens.

Athens is estimated to be about 3 years old and Missy is about 2 years. We hope that in time they will learn to trust and will settle down enough to allow their new family to pet them, but that type of trust will likely take years. Both girls are very food motivated and will need to have their food regulated or they will gain too much weight. Although Missy & Athens are indoor cats, they would likely be very happy to have an escape-proof catio where they can get some safe, outside time. These girls are not comfortable with dogs and need a cat-experienced, adult-only home.
